Agriculture at GIRNC

Agriculture is vital to Nepal’s economy, contributing about one-third of its GDP. GIRNC recognizes Nepal’s potential in high-demand crops like tea, ginger, cardamom, and sugarcane for global markets, alongside rice, wheat, maize, and oilseeds like mustard, soybean, and sunflower for local consumption. Key cash crops include potato, lentil, tobacco, and jute.

GIRNC provides training and resources to empower farmers to grow and export crops such as coffee, oranges, and vegetables. Agriculture encompasses plant and animal production for food, economic gain, and sustainability.

  • Plant Sciences: Agronomy, horticulture, agroforestry, agricultural engineering, economics, plant pathology, entomology, soil science, chemistry, extension, botany, genetics, and plant breeding.
